Optimized Work Processes with Sikkens Wood Coatings Tinting Area
Mrowiec Fenster-Türen-Wintergärten GmbH from Fresenbrügge has made further investments.
With the new Tinting Area from the Sikkens Wood Coatings brand by AkzoNobel, the medium-sized craft business has completed its workflow and further expanded its capabilities.
Optimized Work Processes
At Mrowiec, around 40 employees now produce high-quality wood and wood-aluminium windows, doors, and facade elements on over 4,000 square meters.
High-Quality Wood and Wood-Aluminium Windows, Doors, and Facade Elements A focus is on public sector projects such as new constructions of schools, kindergartens, and other public buildings. Production in the workshops is carried out in a flexible and efficient process. Over the past 10 years, siblings Andy Mrowiec and Diana Mrowiec-Krysztofik have consistently invested in all areas. The starting point was the new requirements of the EnEV at that time. “We had to change not only the profiles of our windows but also the surface treatment due to the changed building physics resulting from the denser construction during the construction phase and afterwards,” says Andy Mrowiec. Additionally, the siblings, as second-generation owners, formulated a consistent focus on the project sector. In 2013, they took the first milestone with the acquisition of the CNC machining centre. This was followed by a new production hall in 2015 and another new hall for surface application in 2018, as well as the acquisition of a robotic painting system. Now, the entire workflow is rounded off by the investment in the Tinting Area from the Sikkens Wood Coatings brand by AkzoNobel. |

A Window in the Desired Colour in One Working Day
“Our order situation is good, and our total volume has grown by more than 30 percent in recent years. We usually have a delivery time of ten to twelve weeks. For these reasons, we have increased our capacities so that we can also cover peak times smoothly,” reports Andy Mrowiec. “And with our new Sikkens Wood Coatings Tinting Area, we can now make the statement: a piece of window ordered in the morning, delivered in the desired colour in the evening. It is not our goal to deliver same-day orders in the evening, but it is meant to express our capabilities. Our goal was to be able to map the entire technology in just one working day. For example, many samples are made shortly before the end, and thanks to our new Sikkens Wood Coatings Tinting Area, we can produce sample windows in the desired colour in just one working day.” Thus, Mrowiec has added the last link in its surface coating process chain and can now produce windows in the desired colour promptly.
The Sikkens Wood Coating Tinting Area
According to the company motto “Together we’ll lead the way,” Sikkens Wood Coatings consultant Bernd Abid Bünger supported Andy Mrowiec in the implementation in detail and realized another step towards the future. The starting point was the newly created workshop for surface treatment in 2019. Here, all wooden windows, doors, and facade elements are painted by a spray robot. The hall also features a humidification system to maintain consistently optimal conditions. In the right hall and delivery area, the Sikkens Wood Coatings Tinting Area with the Sikkens Wood Coatings colour mixing machine, bases, and pastes is now located. “With an output of around 8,000 to 12,000 window units per year, a corresponding volume of paints and glazes is needed. The use of the colour mixing system has made storage very economical,” emphasizes Andy Mrowiec. The bases for the complete coating structure from the primer to the final coating are stored on pallets in the new high-bay warehouse and tinted in order-related quantities using the pastes in the mixing system. Only the best water-based colour pastes are used for the colour mixing machine, ensuring a consistent and stable colour tone.
Based on the company’s own and powerful pre-installed colour database, every conceivable opaque or translucent colour tone is available. With the complete range of pastes, the entire colour spectrum of the Sikkens Wood Coatings colour fan 5051 is available. The colour palette was compiled by experienced colour experts from the AkzoNobel Global Aesthetics Center and offers all required colour tones in a fan. Additionally, all RAL, NCS, and other market-established colour tones can be mixed with the Sikkens Wood Coatings colour mixing system. Custom special colours can be recreated in the shortest time in both opaque and translucent areas by the Sikkens Colourcenter. The recipes are then transferred directly online to the colour mixing machine. This allows for the implementation and fulfilment of all customer wishes.
Quality with Efficiency
Through consistent investments, the Mrowiec siblings have expanded the capabilities of their business. An additional component was the Sikkens Wood Coating Tinting Area to perfect their surface treatment area and achieve great flexibility. Now, the Sikkens Wood Coating Colour Mix machine can tint the paints and glazes for entire projects in a short time.
